June 11 Heading Back DownI am on my way back down to Palmer Station after stopping off at Puerto Montt, Chile to spend some time on the NBP. I will again be boarding the LMG in Punta Arenas, Chile. From there it is 4 days to station, 6 days on station and then back north for 4 days. I'll try to post some pictures. More to follow. May 18 Back in the USWell I have returned to Colorado and am still working in the USAP as the IT Manager for Marine. I will try to use this space to update all on my new ventures with the two USAP vessels. April 19 Heading NorthI will be leaving station in a few hours and I am feeling a bit sad to leave this beautiful place. I have made so many new friends. Some are staying here for a bit but most are heading north with on the LMG (ship). The ship ride will be filled with card playing and movies. I will spend a little bit of time with the electronics tech on the computer systems on board. You see, I have a new position with the USAP as the IT Manager for Marine and with this position I may be able to return again to Palmer for a short period of time. This job has many different challenges, but I am looking forward to starting.
Well I am signing off for awhile and will let you know how my travels through the Drake went.
Cheers, Scott April 14 Turnover Complete...Well I have turned in my radio and handed off my LeatherMan. It's now up to Neal.
For the next few days I am going to do some inventory, update most of the documentation and just be here to answer questions. It is nice.... I'm getting excited.... Friday I am on the fueling team so I will be walking the fueling line making sure there are no leaks. (Real exciting work...). Then it is moving on to the boat and heading back to Punta Arenas. My time here is short and I am enjoying my last few days here on station.
March 30 Almost heading out…Well my replacement has arrived and things are getting sorted out. The turnover of the Research Associate position is going slowly and smoothly. There are quite a few new faces on station (most here for the first time) and it is nice to see the excitement in their eyes. I can bet that what I see in them is the same thing that others saw in me when I first got here. So far it looks like a good crew. Next week I will be turning over my fire team duties and a few more projects, but I find myself wondering up to TerraLab and doing the daily checks that I have already turned over to Neal. Travel arrangements are being sorted out I am really getting excited to get home. Here are a few things I haven’t done since I have been here. 1) I haven’t had to drive a car (the 4 wheeler and 6 wheeler don’t count) 2) I haven’t had to go the grocery store. 3) I haven’t had to fix any meals from scratch. 4) I haven’t had to pay any bills (thanks Bing for doing that!!) 5) I haven’t had to mow any grass. 6) I haven’t had to do any house maintenance. 7) The only line I have had to wait in is for meals and that is always less than 5 minutes. 8) I haven’t been flooded with any media HYPE on politics or other issues. But this is all about to change and I welcome it. 3 weeks and counting. |
